My Professional Experience
I am a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with many years of clinical experience supporting children, young people, and their families across a broad spectrum of emotional and mental health challenges.
I completed my medical training at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, followed by specialist training at St Mary’s Hospital in London. I have worked as an NHS Consultant in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry for over 10 years, with clinical experience across:
Generic CAMHS services
Crisis and Liaison teams
Specialist neurodevelopmental assessment clinics
In addition to my medical qualifications, I have completed further training in Systemic Therapy at the Institute of Family Therapy, strengthening my ability to work relationally and collaboratively with families. I have specialist training and experience in assessing demand avoidance and PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance). I am also trained in the use of gold-standard tools for autism assessment, including:
Autism Diagnostic Interview – Revised (ADI-R)
Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS)
Throughout my career, I have led and contributed to the development of several multidisciplinary teams, including:
A Crisis Team
An Adolescent-Specific Service
Neurodevelopmental Clinics
Generic CAMHS Services
I support children, adolescents, and families experiencing a range of mild to severe mental health and neurodevelopmental difficulties, including:
Anxiety disorders
Depression
Autism and ADHD
My Personal Approach
My clinical approach is firmly child-focused, placing the voice, experience, and needs of the young person at the heart of every piece of work. With a strong foundation in systemic therapy, I emphasise the importance of collaborative working with families, building strong, trusting relationships that help guide and support children and young people toward meaningful and lasting recovery.
