Our Assessment Pathway
Step 1
Getting in Touch – Your First Conversation
Every journey begins with a question. When you call or email us, our team will take the time to listen carefully to your concerns. This first conversation is not a commitment—it is a space for you to explore what kind of support might be helpful. We will discuss your concerns and guide you toward the right type of assessment based on age, symptoms, and circumstances.
We may also provide brief triage to ensure our patients are directed to the most suitable clinician on our team.
Step 2
Registration – Beginning the Journey
Once you decide to move forward, we will ask you to complete our New Patient Registration Form, available online. This essential step gathers key information and formally initiates the assessment process.
We encourage you to complete the form as soon as possible to avoid delays in booking your appointment.
Step 3
Payment and Preparation
After registration, we will issue an invoice for the assessment. Once payment is confirmed, we begin preparing the materials for your assessment.
Within a few days, you will receive a set of digital and/or PDF questionnaires, tailored specifically to patient's age group and the type of assessment they are having. These forms are a vital part of the assessment process, offering insights into emotional well-being, developmental history, behaviour patterns, and attention profiles.
We kindly ask that all forms be completed and returned at least one week prior to your scheduled appointment. This gives your clinician time to review the material in detail before meeting you.
Step 4
The Assessment Appointment – In Person at Our Clinic
Your assessment appointment takes place in person at our clinic and typically lasts around two hours. The appointment format will vary slightly depending on age and the type of assessment:
For Children and Adolescents (Ages 5–17)
The session may include:
-
A structured conversation with the parent or caregiver
-
A separate age-appropriate discussion with the child or teen
-
Review of completed forms and questionnaires
-
Clinical observations, where appropriate
-
A computer-based attention or cognitive test, if part of the assessment
For Young Adults (Ages 18–25)
The clinician will meet with the young adult directly to:
-
Explore presenting concerns in detail
-
Review completed self-assessments and questionnaires
-
Conduct any relevant cognitive or attention tasks
-
Discuss experiences at school, university, or work, where relevant
Step 5
Feedback – Making Sense of the Findings
For some assessments, a separate feedback session may be scheduled, typically within one to two weeks of your appointment. During this session, your clinician will:
-
Talk through the assessment findings in clear, supportive language
-
Highlight key themes or patterns from questionnaires and observations
-
Explain any diagnostic considerations
-
Provide tailored recommendations for next steps
We welcome your questions and aim to make this session a collaborative space.
Step 6
Your Report – A Thoughtful Summary
A full written report is provided within four weeks of your assessment. This includes:
-
A summary of your concerns and background
-
An overview of questionnaire findings
-
Any diagnosis or formulation
-
Clear, personalised recommendations
If you require a brief version of the report for third parties (e.g. school, university, workplace), we are happy to provide this at no additional cost shortly after your full report is completed.
Step 7
Ongoing Support – What Comes Next
Understanding is only the beginning. After your assessment, we will help guide you toward appropriate next steps. These may include:
-
Referral for therapy with one of our psychologists or psychotherapists
-
Parent support sessions
-
Psychoeducation for young people or families
-
Post-diagnostic support for ADHD or ASD
Step 8
Medication – If Recommended
If your clinician advises medication as part of your treatment plan, we will guide you through the process, which may vary by age. Our team will help arrange a prescribing pathway with the appropriate oversight and follow-up.
