My Professional Experience
I am a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with over 20 years of experience in child psychiatry, most recently serving as the Lead Child Psychiatrist for Haringey.
I currently work within the NHS as a Consultant Child Psychiatrist in the Paediatric Team at North Middlesex Hospital, supporting young people with chronic physical conditions and medically unexplained symptoms. I find it deeply rewarding to work alongside families whose lives have been disrupted by a significant medical diagnosis and to help them manage the emotional and psychological impact.
Until recently, I was also the Lead Psychiatrist at Haringey CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service), where I worked for 13 years. Through this role, I gained a wealth of experience in assessing and treating a wide spectrum of mental health difficulties in young people — from mild to severe presentations — including:
ADHD
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Depression and anxiety
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Crisis support and risk management
I have significant expertise in working with complex presentations and co-morbid conditions.
In addition to my psychiatric training, I have completed further training in:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Solution-Focused Therapy
Family/Systemic Therapy
Motivational Interviewing, for which I have recently received accreditation
I originally trained as a doctor at the Royal Free Hospital, before undertaking specialist psychiatric training at the Royal Free, St Mary’s, and Great Ormond Street Hospitals.
My Personal Approach
I have always been fascinated by people and their stories, and I feel incredibly fortunate that my work allows me to meet so many remarkable young people and families. I am privileged to be trusted with supporting families during vulnerable and challenging times, and I find it deeply meaningful to be part of a young person’s journey toward improved emotional wellbeing.
My approach is grounded in careful listening, building trust, and helping young people feel seen and understood. I believe that forming a strong therapeutic relationship is key to understanding the next best steps — and working together to achieve meaningful change.
While I am confident and experienced in making diagnostic assessments and prescribing medication when appropriate, I also value working collaboratively with therapeutic colleagues. I am happy to be part of an integrated care team, combining my medical expertise with psychological approaches to offer holistic support.
Additionally, I have extensive experience writing clinical reports and supporting families in navigating mental health and educational services to ensure that their child’s needs are met.
