My Professional Experience

Claire is a psychodynamic child, adolescent, and family psychotherapist. She completed her first master’s degree in Psychoanalytic Developmental Psychology at the Anna Freud Centre and later went on to complete her clinical training with a second master’s at the Tavistock Centre in London.

Prior to training as a psychotherapist, Claire worked as a primary school teacher, bringing with her extensive experience in education. She has always been deeply drawn to the inner emotional worlds of children and how early life experiences are expressed through behaviour and relationships. Claire is particularly interested in the unconscious dynamics that shape a young person’s thoughts, feelings, and interactions — and how these play out in the evolving relationship between therapist and client.

She explores the formative attachment relationships that have shaped a young person’s internal world and contributed to their current emotional experience. Claire places great importance on understanding these early dynamics and how they continue to influence behaviour, relationships, and emotional wellbeing.

Claire is also a qualified yoga teacher and believes strongly in the mind-body connection. She recognises that the body often holds emotional experiences that cannot be processed through words alone. When appropriate, and tailored to the individual, she incorporates grounding body work and mindfulness techniques into her sessions to support children and young people in feeling safe in their bodies and in understanding the messages their bodies may be communicating.

Her sessions are child-led and underpinned by empathy, allowing the client to feel safe and secure before beginning deeper therapeutic work. Claire places particular emphasis on the therapeutic relationship itself — seeing this as a central tool for healing and change. In her work with younger children, she offers creative and symbolic play using materials such as art supplies, puppets, sand, and toys to help them express feelings that may be difficult to put into words.

Claire also works closely with parents, helping them to better understand their child’s emotional world and to support their child’s development. She provides a non-judgemental and compassionate space for parents to think therapeutically about their child’s experiences, behaviour, and needs.

In addition to her work at MindOf, Claire also works as a psychotherapist in an inner-city London state school, providing therapeutic support to children and their families.

Claire’s work is rooted in compassion, honesty, and empathy. Her aim is to help build resilience and self-belief in the young people she works with, empowering them with the emotional tools to live their lives to the fullest.
