My Professional Experience

I am a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, specialising in the diagnostic assessment of children and young people with possible Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASCs). I currently work in the NHS as a Consultant Psychiatrist in the Lifespan ASC and Learning Disabilities Service at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust, where I lead the ASC diagnostic assessment clinic.

I am trained and highly experienced in using established diagnostic tools, including:

  • Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2)

  • Autism Diagnostic Interview (ADI)

  • Developmental, Dimensional and Diagnostic Interview (3Di)

In addition to conducting assessments, I run ADOS-2 training courses for professionals across the UK.

I am also experienced in the assessment and management of other neurodevelopmental conditions, including ADHD, and work with children, adolescents, and adults who present with overlapping emotional and developmental needs.

Beyond diagnosis, I am deeply interested in a range of therapeutic approaches to support individuals with ASC, ADHD, and related conditions. I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy from the Anna Freud Centre, and have also trained in:

  • Mentalisation-Based Therapy (MBT)

  • Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)

I originally qualified as a doctor through Cambridge University and University College London, and completed my psychiatric training at the Royal Free Hospital, followed by higher specialist training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Tavistock Clinic in London.

Teaching, Publications and Interests

I have a strong interest in medical education and professional training. I currently serve as the Training Programme Director for doctors training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Tavistock.

I was part of the team that developed the CYPIAPT national curriculum, designed to equip mental health professionals with the skills needed to support children with developmental conditions.

I regularly present at national conferences and have contributed to publications in the field of autism, neurodevelopmental conditions, and mental health.
